Dr Jason Suter (Founding Partner) Sports & Exercise Medicine; Travel Medicine; Team Physician
Specialisations: Sports & Exercise Medicine; Travel Medicine; Team Physician
Interests: Biomechanics of running and racquet sports and their injuries; Tendinopathies; Musculoskeletal injuries in rugby; Hip and groin injuries. Concussion management.
Qualifications: MBBCh (Wits); M.Phil (SEM) (UCT); Certificate of competence in Travel Medicine (Wits)
Dr JASON SUTER is one of the founding partners at Cape Sports Medicine. He is currently Team physician at Team UAE Emirates, a world tour cycling team. He currently holds
the position of Chief Medical Officer at DHL Stormers and Western Province Rugby. Previously he has also been the team physician for the Proteas cricket team; as well as the SA A and SA U21 Rugby teams.
Dr Suter is a Director at Cape Sports Medicine with a specific interest in hip and groin injuries, chronic tendinopathies, rugby and football related medicine and injuries including concussion as well as running, cycling and racquet sport biomechanics and their associated injuries. In addition he is the founder and Director of Hambisa Health, with over 25 years experience in the Corporate Wellness arena. Jason plays league squash and has sweated through a Comrades and 5 Two Ocean Marathons, a Cape Argus cycle tour plus swum five Midmar miles.
Prof Jeroen Swart (Founding Partner)Specialisations: Sports & Exercise Medicine

Interests: Cycling specific injuries and illness; high performance; knee, hip and groin injuries.

Professor JEROEN SWART is one of the 3 founding members at Cape Sports Medicine and his love for all things cycling has led to his specialisation in injury prevention and the biomechanics of cycling, as well as in fatigue and exercise performance research. Jeroen’s academic qualifications and extensive experience have positioned him well to fulfil many leadership roles. He’s currently Performance Director for UAE Team Emirates and a FIMS Scientific Committee Member."
Dr Leigh Gordon (Founding Partner)Specialisations: Sports & Exercise Medicine
Interests: Concussion, return to exercise after illness, the female athlete and RED-S; pre-participation and cardiac screening

Dr LEIGH GORDON is one of the 3 founding partners at Cape Sports Medicine. She works in the CSM practice as a full-time SEM physician. She is also currently Director of International Sports Medicine Federation (FIMS) Centre of Collaboration, and the President Elect for SASMA, the South African Sports Medicine Association. She is a former team physician for the national Springbok Sevens men’s and women’s squads. She is a World Rugby Medical Trainer and co-ordinates the South African Immediate Care in Rugby pitch-side care training courses. She is also on World Rugby’s Independent Concussion Consultant panel, and enjoys match day doctor duties, particularly for head injuries. She is a Medical Officer for the International Field Hockey association (FIH), for whom she was appointed as FIH Medical Officer for the last two Women’s Hockey World Cups, as well as the Field Hockey at the last two Summer Olympic Games – Tokyo and Paris. She is a part-time lecturer at UCT HPALS department.
Dr Sid Allie (Partner) Specialisations: Applied Physiology, Neurophysiology and Biochemistry, Sports & Exercise Medicine
Qualifications:
BSC(Hons), DA (UCT), MBChB (Stellenbosch); MPhil (Sports Medicine), Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Advanced) – upper and lower limb through SonoSkills (Netherlands), World Rugby ICITR Level 3 pitch side care.
Interests : Acute and chronic sports injuries, Regenerative medicine with a focus on Osteoarthritis with a focus on PRP, CGF and Stem Cell Therapy.
Dr SID ALLIE has his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (2003); MPhilMed (Sports Medicine) (2010) from UCT as well as additional qualifications in HIV/AIDS Management and he’s completed a Dispensing Practitioners Course (2008).
Team doctor physician at Western Province Rugby, with previous involvement at Villagers Rugby Club and Hamilton’s Rugby Football Club. Previously he held the title of Senior Medical Director for Indian Premier League Cricket for M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengalaru and Maharashtra International Stadium, Pune!
In his spare time Dr Allie explores experimental therapies and novel drug design for therapeutic modalities. He also enjoys playing piano and long walks.
Dr Raaghib Fredericks (Partner)Specialisations: Sports & Exercise Medicine

Acute and chronic sports injuries - with a special interest in shoulder, knee and ankle injuries. Musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound guided interventions, including
platelet rich plasma and viscosupplementation injections.

Raaghib has a background representing South Africa in Junior T&F athletics for the 800m event and playing senior provincial hockey for WP Hockey for 10 years.
He is now a keen recreational sportsman, partaking in cycling, running, golf and the occasional hockey match on a weekly basis.

Interests: Interests and research include working with endurance athletes, race medicine, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Qualifications: MBChB, MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine, BSc Physiotherapy, BPhys Ed and specializes in Sports and Exercise medicine.
Dr Rotunno is a full-time partner at the Cape Sports Medicine medical practice based at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. He is the Medical Director for UAE Team Emirates Pro Cycling Team, the chief medical officer for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, head of medical for Ajax Cape Town Football team, and a consultant race doctor for Absa Cape Epic and other sporting events. His sporting achievements include his SA National and provincial swimming colours.

Dr CAROLINE D’ALTON has her MBChB(US), MSc SEM with her specialty in Sports medicine and she hones her focus on heat-related illnesses.

Dr Jonathan MacKay (Associate)Sports & Exercise Medicine

Sports medicine in the team environment, with a particular focus on the medical care of teams across training and competition settings. Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Management of adolescent athletes and sports-related concussion.

Jonathan has a sporting background that includes age-group provincial level hockey and cricket, followed by a year playing cricket abroad after finishing school.
He has since transitioned to individual endurance sport and has suffered through several triathlons, most recently the Ironman 70.3 in Port Elizabeth. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active, particularly running, surfing, and golf, ideally followed by a beer!
Dr Nicola Freitas (Associate)Sports & Exercise Medicine

Team Physician: Nicola currently serves as Head of Medical for a professional cycling team, with prior experience as a team physician in Rugby and Soccer.
Interests:
Dr Nicola Freitas is a Sports and Exercise Medicine doctor with a passion for endurance sport and performance. She works with recreational athletes through to international-level competitors, with a particular focus on cycling, running, triathlon, and multi-day endurance events.
Her clinical interests include female athlete health and performance, bone stress injuries and energy availability, cycling biomechanics, and the diagnosis and management of overuse injuries in endurance athletes, with a focus optimising rehabilitation and return-to-sport outcomes.
In addition to her work at Cape Sports Medicine, Nicola is actively involved in performance and professional sport, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of coaches, physiotherapists, biokineticists, and nutritionists to provide integrated athlete care.
Nicola is an endurance athlete herself and has competed in multiple endurance events, highlights include the Cape Epic, Two Oceans Marathon and Ironman. This lived experience shapes her clinical approach; balancing ambition with long term health, resilience, and sustainability in sport.

Louise has been integral in the formation and success of Cape Sports Medicine from the word go. She's essential in making sure that the doctors and their patients, suppliers plus the support team have everything they need to perform at their best.

Astrinita is the first face and voice you will see and hear at the SSISA practice. Her efficient and friendly interaction will make sure each patient is taken care of professionally.
